Planet Envoy: Bringing Christ to the World

Keeping our readers informed

A Message from Patrick Madrid, publisher of Envoy Magazine:

STATUS REPORT ON ENVOY'S

NEW OFFICE PROJECT

June, 2002

Dear Friend of Envoy Magazine,

I just came back from inspecting the progress on the new (soon to be opened) Envoy office, and I wanted to write to you with an update on how we’re doing.

As I mentioned in an earlier note, Envoy’s apostolate of “bringing Christ to the world” is moving forward into a new and exciting phase. And I’m so happy and thankful that you and our other friends have been so generous with your prayers and financial support. It’s because of you that we’re able to push forward. Thank you!

We’re transitioning from a "virtual" magazine, with staffers working at home in diverse and far-flung spots across the country, to being an "actual" magazine, headquartered our of a small basement office here in Granville, Ohio.

Until two weeks ago, our soon-to-be office was just a “cement box” — an unfinished basement room that’s now being renovated into a livable office space. We’ll have enough room for our four core Envoy staffers as well as an adjoining room for storage and supplies.

The workers just finished the dry-wall phase and will be painting soon, which means it will be ready for us to move in by early June. And that means I have another hurdle to cross. . .

Within the next two weeks, I need to acquire basic equipment and supplies for the new Envoy office. Specifically, I need to purchase a few computers, some inexpensive office furniture (e.g. desks, chairs, filing cabinets, work tables, etc.), and all the basic supplies necessary to get our new office space up and running.

I need your help if I’m going to be able to make the transition without jeopardizing Envoy’s already modest budget. Currently, any dollar that comes in goes right back out again to edit, print, and produce the magazine. There’s just nothing left over for me to divert to buying these necessary items for the new office.

So I’m hoping and praying that you can help Envoy’s apostolate with a donation that will help us equip the new office without slowing down the work of the apostolate.

Specifically, I urgently need transition funds for the following items:

Basic, inexpensive office furniture
(file cabinets, desks, chairs, etc.):
$ 5,500
Four computers (3 PCs, 1 Mac):
$ 6,800
Copier, fax, scanner:
$ 1,450
Office supplies:
$ 1,200
Moving costs:
$ 1,500
Telephones:
$   550
First year's rent for office:
$11,400

_______
MY GOAL:
$28,400

I realize, of course, that in the “Big Picture,” $28,000 isn’t a huge sum, but for Envoy it’s absolutely unattainable without the help of our loyal friends and readers. That’s why I’m hoping you can help us.

The good news is that, with the exception of our rent, these are all “one-time” expenses. Once we cover them, they won’t pop up again. Also, once we’re moved into the new office, we’ll really begin to see the benefit of being leaner and more efficient by having our small crew together under a single roof.

As you can imagine, most magazines that produce a high-quality, full-color magazine of Envoy’s caliber have a far bigger staff, a much larger budget, and more expansive offices. But not so with Envoy.

There are no frills in our budget: Our new office is a 1500 square-foot basement; the furniture I’ll purchase for it will be simple and functional and inexpensive. As I say, our operation is very efficient and very frugal. But without your continued support, even with our frugality, Envoy will be hard-pressed to make ends meet. Our current funds are already fully committed to the basic design, production, printing, and mailings costs. We simply can’t use those meager funds on the new office or we risk jeopardizing the timeliness of the magazine.

So, if I’m going to make this transition work, I need your financial help as soon as possible. In fact, I need to hear from you immediately, since we’re scheduled to move into the new space in just two weeks!

As a benefactor to Envoy’s special Office Project, please consider sponsoring a specific item on our list: For example, you might want to donate $1700 to cover the cost of a computer & monitor, or a desk, or rent for a month.

As our way of saying a special Thank You to you and all others who can make a donation to help Envoy make this important transition, we will recognize you by name (unless you tell us not to) in an upcoming issue of Envoy Magazine.

As an Envoy benefactor, your name will be listed in the magazine with our deep gratitude, and we will also have seven Masses of thanksgiving celebrated for you and your intentions and for those of all the benefactors to this special project fund. It’s our way of letting our readers know whom the generous souls are who keep Envoy in its mission of “bringing Christ to the World.”

As you well know, the Church is going through some difficult times. Envoy, as ever, will continue to faithfully defend and explain the Catholic Church’s doctrines and practices, even while many others are reluctant to do so.

You can show your support for the Catholic Church at large by joining in Envoy’s mission. We urgently need both your prayers and your financial help. I know there are many worthy Catholic apostolates that are in need of support, and I do not take your generosity for granted.

I have about two weeks to raise the $28,400 we need to get moved into our modest new basement quarters. Can I count on your help?

If you can, please consider making a special one-time donation of $1,000, $3,000, $5,000, or even $10,000. We also need many smaller donations of $75, $100, $250, and $500.

Please send in your maximum donation today, on our secure website. I assure you of our gratitude and prayers. I know God will reward your generosity.

Best wishes in Christ,
