Long and Prosper (and Other Tall Tales from the Health and Wealth Gospel) Paul Thigpen, Ph. D. Looks like Catholics have gotten it all wrong, again. This time it’s our notion that sacrifice is something we do simply because it’s God’s will, we love Him, and we hope to build treasure in heaven. According to certain TV preachers, we’re missing out on a big opportunity. Apparently, God’s will is that we should all have money in the bank and His personal guarantee of vigorous good health. If we part with cash for the sake of the work these preachers claim to be doing in God’s name, He’ll send it all back to us with interest and good health to spend it in. One problem: While they say a lot about making regular payments to the cause, they don’t say much about how long it’ll take for God to come through with the goods. Could it be that God isn’t really a partner in this business? |
